How Much BAC Water for Liraglutide? Research Reconstitution & Concentration Guide

For a hypothetical lyophilized liraglutide research material, the amount of bacteriostatic water used determines the final laboratory concentration. The governing calculation is liraglutide quantity ÷ final liquid volume = concentration. FDA-approved liraglutide products such as Victoza and Saxenda are already supplied as finished injectable solutions and should not be treated as BAC-water reconstitution products.

What Is Liraglutide?

Liraglutide is a long-acting analog of human GLP-1 and a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It has been studied extensively in type 2 diabetes, chronic weight management, cardiovascular outcomes and related metabolic research.

Unlike dual or multi-agonist compounds, liraglutide primarily acts through the GLP-1 receptor.

Mechanism of Action

Liraglutide activates the GLP-1 receptor. GLP-1 receptor signaling is associated with glucose-dependent insulin secretion, glucagon regulation, delayed gastric emptying, appetite-related signaling and energy-intake effects.

FDA / Regulatory Status

Liraglutide is FDA approved through specific finished pharmaceutical products.

Current FDA and DailyMed information identifies Victoza as liraglutide injection supplied at 6 mg/mL in a prefilled pen. Saxenda is also an FDA-approved liraglutide injection for chronic weight-management indications in eligible populations.

Do not confuse approval of finished liraglutide products with approval of lyophilized research material. FDA-approved Victoza and Saxenda labeling does not create a BAC-water preparation method for unrelated research vials.

Approved and Studied Liraglutide Doses

Liraglutide has different approved and studied regimens depending on product and indication. These clinical quantities are included to describe the evidence base; they are not research-vial reconstitution instructions.

Victoza Current labeling includes once-daily regimens up to 1.8 mg for specified diabetes indications.
Saxenda Current labeling includes dose escalation to a 3 mg once-daily maintenance regimen for eligible weight-management patients.
